KOIVU DENIES AGREEING TO A 2 YEAR CONTRACT WITH THE HABS
According to Montreal's La Presse, Habs captain Saku Koivu denies recent report suggesting he had agreed to terms on a new two-year contract."It's completely false,"Koivu said."There's no contract, no agreement. There hasn't even been any discussions with myself, the Canadiens or my agent Don Baizley. With 8 games left in the season, we are in a fight for the playoffs. Do you really think it's appropriate to talk about contracts? There are a lot of us in the same situation in the last year of their contracts, and it's unthinkable to distract the team with contract talk." Captain Koivu is in the final year of his 4 year contract worth $19 million dollars.
Rumors have also been saying that Koivu will be playing along side his brother Mikku Koivu next season. But Koivu was quick to denie that rumor. "Like I said before I'm not going to talk about the off season," Koivu said.Alex Kovalev, Robert Lang, Mike Komisarek, Alex Tanguay, Mathieu Dandenault, Francis Bouillon and Patrice Brisebois can all become UFAs at season's end. Montreal GM and Coach Bob Gainey said he will not talk about negotiations for new contracts with anyone until their season is over.
