HABS CLAIM BETTS OFF WAVERS
Today in Montreal, Canadiens GM announced that they have claimed Blair Betts from the Flyers off of wavers. He also announced that he sent down Andreas Engqvis to the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL). Betts played 3 Pre-Season games this year and was pointless. But in 75 games with the Flyers last season, Betts had 5 goals and 7 assists. Betts (who will wear number 15) is expected to make his debut tomorrow night as a centre in Toronto against the Leafs.

NHL-X: Canadiens End Pre-Season on a High Note
GOAL SCORERS
TBL: Vincent Lecavalier
Last night in Quebec City, the Habs took on the Lightning in attempt to end their Pre-Season on a high note. 10 minutes into the first, the Habs were shorthanded and Gionta had a breakaway and he scored five hole on Garon to make it 1-0 Habs lead. That's Gionta first goal of the Pre-season. Early in the second, Gomez would score to make it 2-0 Habs lead. Just over 1 minute later, Lecavalier would score to cut the lead in half. 5 minutes later, Eric Cole came into the Lightning zone and fired a shot top shelf past the glove of Garon to make it 3-1. Darche would make it 4-1 going into the third.
10 minutes into the third, Malone hit Campoli in the head area, it looked to me like it was a blind side hit. Campoli was alright. But I think Malone will get a few games suspension for that hit. Cammalleri would add a goal late in the third as the Habs go onto win the game 5-1. The Habs record now improved to 2-6-0 in the Pre-Season. The Canadiens will open the Regular season on Thursday in Toronto against the Leafs.

IS THIS THE YEAR?
With the 2011-12 season just around the corner, many Canadiens fans wounder if this is the year that Montreal will end there 18 year stanley cup drought. The Canadiens have came close in 2010 as they took out Washington in 7 games and Pittsburgh in 7 games with Jarosalv Halak being the highlighted hero for Montreal. But that was all about to change in the Eastern Conference Final as the Canadiens fell to the Philadelphia Flyers in 5 games. The Habs were just 3 wins away from the Stanley cup final. The next season, the Canadiens Cup run did not live up to the hype as they fell to the Boston Bruins in 7 games in round 1.
So now the question rises. Is this the year for Montreal? The Canadiens have outstanding goaltending from Carey Price. A shot blocker machine in Hal Gill. Offensive talent from Plekanec, Cammalleri, Gionta, Pacioretty and now Eric Cole. The Canadiens also have one of the best Penalty killing and Powerplay units in the NHL. So is this enough? If you look at the past season, hope was high for the Canadiens as they finished second in the NorthEast division and sixth in the Eastern Conference. They had a record of 44-30-8. Not bad for a team that TSN predicted would finish ninth in the Eastern Conference and miss the playoffs. The Canadiens (just like in the 2010 playoffs) , have proved that they can go beyond there expectations to achieve higher.
This season, the Canadiens have been predicted by Hockey News to finish in 8th, but I think they will once again overachieve by finishing in 3rd with the leader ship from Captain Brian Gionta and head coach Jacques Martin. But if the Canadiens are going to win the Stanley cup, they will need to pull together as a team, block shots, score goals and be the best as they can be on there special teams unit. Thats the keys to succeed in the NHL.

NHL-X: ROLOSON SHUTS DOWN THE HABS TO LEAD TO A 4-0 BOLTS VICTORY
GOAL SCORERS
TBL: S. Stamkos (03:47 - 1st) , S. Stamkos (11:51 - 1st) , B. Connolly (16:43 - 2nd) , B. Connolly (PPG, 18:49 - 3rd)
Last night in Montreal, the Habs were playing their final home game of the 2011 Pre-Season and it was against the Lightning. Coming into this game, the Habs had a record of 1-5-0 (their 1 win came in Ottawa). The record wasn't getting any better. Just 3 minutes in, Gervais shot was stopped by Buadj but Stamkos buried the rebound to make it 1-0 Bolts lead. 9 minutes later, St.Louis had the puck in the offensive zone on the left side and he played it to Stamkos, who one-timed it past Buadj to make it 2-0 Tampa. Late in the second, Brett Connolly had a few whacks at the loose puck and finally put it past Buadj to make it 3-0 Tampa bay Lightning. Connolly would add one more in the third as the Lightning take it by the score of 4-0.
In the win, Roloson made 24 saves to lead the Lightning to a victory. The Bolts record has now improved to 3-2-0 in the Pre-Season, as the Habs record got worse going to 1-6-0. But after the game, the big story was about Brett Connolly getting himself 2 goals against Montreal."Connolly's just pushing and pushing, and that's how guys make the NHL. Look at (Jeff) Skinner last year in Carolina -- no one was expecting that," said Lightning head coach Guy Boucher. "Every game he was adapting and at some point you have to consider the player might be serious."
"He's a high pick and you can see all the skills he has. But he's a smart player," St. Louis said. "He's playing within the team concept -- that shows maturity within his play. You can't just depend on your offensive flairs in this league anymore; you have to play the whole game and he's done that. Obviously he's getting rewarded by doing the right things." As for Montreal, in the loss Buadj made 30 saves. Carey Price will get the start in the Habs last Pre-Season game on Saturday in Quebec City as the Habs hope to close out the Pre-Season with a win. That game will be tomorrow night at 7:00 Pm E.T against the Lightning on RDS-HD.
