Canadiens 100th Season

The Canadiens told the press on Wednesday all the events on the club’s Centennial celebration.the first event will take on the Bruins for there home opener.They will be honoring 44 stars in the Habs history that will become apart of the hall of fame. Patrick Roy’s number 33 jersey will be raised to the Bell Centre rafters during a ceremony on November 22.The Canadiens will be playing with 5 vintage jersey's this upcoming season.They will play with each Vintage jersey's in the picture above for 1 game each.On December 4th the Habs will be honoring the greatest players at the the Centennial Plaza The Habs will also be Hoisting the 2009 All-Star Game on January 25th 2009. This is the celebration schedule below.

Canadiens Host 2009 NHL All-Star Game

The Montreal Canadiens were awarded the 2008-09 season All-Star Game by the NHL.The contest will be played for the Canadienss 100th anniversary.The last time the Canadiens hosted this event it was in 1993 when the Canadiens won there 24th Stanley Cup."We're very, very happy to have been chosen as hosts of the all-star game," said Canadiens president Pierre Boivin. "It's going to be our centennial year and we said from the beginning that we want to do everything so that Montreal really becomes hockey-centric and that it'd be a year of celebration of not only the franchise but or our national sport and our great game and all of its heroes."

The Canadiens will try to repeat Hockey History as they will try to win a Stanley Cup on yet another year they host the NHL All-Star game.

Habs Scoreboard

The Habs’ new central scoreboard, the third model since the arena opened its doors in March 1996.It's the largest score board in the NHL.The scoreboard weights 50,000 pounds and standing 25 feet high and 40 feet wide, it won’t be unnoticed on Friday night when the Habs take on the Senators.The Canadiens centennial scoreboard is way wider,and way bigger then the size of the scoreboard recently purchased by the Maple Leafs for the Air Canada Centre.

After Coming off a 3-2 shootout win against the wings, The Habs will look to win there 3rd Pre-Season game in a row.To do that they will need some help from the youngsters.Like Carey price who will start in goal for the Canadiens.Martin Gerber will Start in Goal for the Sens.This is going to be a good Home and Home series between the Habs and the Sens.But remember its only Pre-Season.The puck drop is 7:08 Pm E.T on Friday September 26 2008.

Markov the hero for the Habs in shootout

Canadiens goalie Cédrick Desjardins stopped 12 of the 13 shots he faced last night in Detroit. Markov Scored the only goal of the shootout to make the Habs win this exhibition game by the score of 3-2. Carle had his head down and he got hit fairly hard.He was carried off the ice on a stretcher 5:25 into the game after a hit by Detroit forward Tomas Kopecky at the Red Wings' blue-line."He was awake when he went to the hospital," said Montreal coach Guy Carbonneau. "We gave him a couple of quick tests and he was fine and he's going back with us.I don't think it was a dirty hit.


Detroit also had a player go to the hospital. Captain Nicklas Lidstrom was hit in the face with a shot and was helped off the ice 3:00 into the third period. He took stitches above his right eye and went to Detroit Medical Center for X-rays."It's above the eye, it touched a bit of his nose and above his head, so they're going to send him over for some tests," Detroit coach Mike Babcock said. "The injury is nothing to do with his eye, so that's obviously the positive news."


Matt D'Agostini and Tomas Deauregard were the goal scorers for Montreal in regulation.In the shootout the Andrei Markov scored in the shootout.Tomas Holmstrom and Justin Abdelkader scored the goals for Detroit.

You never know this might be the stanley cup Final this year.

Pre-Season:Habs Host Sabers

After coming off a 8-3 lost to the Bruins the Habs prospects will try to prove that they could find themselves a spot on the Habs roster. Carey Price will be the starting goaltender for the Habs.The Sabers still Have not announced there starting Goaltender yet.With Carey Price losing 28 ponds over the summer it will be interesting to see how he preforms in tomorrows game against the Sabers.The puck drop will be at 7:08 PM E.T

Roy Excited about number 33

On November 20 the Canadiens will be raising number 33 to the rafters.Patric Roy said he was hoping that this would happen.Ever since the game against the Red Wings in 1995 after Roy allowed 10 goals he said he will never play for the habs again.''I think its been long enough for the fans to get over what happened'' Explained Gainy.But the question is have the fans moved on?

Saku Koivu Criticized ? Plus Koivu talks about chances of a cup in Montreal

Last year at the Canadiens golf tournament Koivu got Criticized for being honest.''Last year I said i think we got good potential but I don't think were big contenders for the cup.I think the fans took it the wrong way.''Explained Koivu. This year the fans Criticized him for not showing up at the golf tournament.He didn't even show up at training camp instead he stayed in Finland but Koivu had good reasons.''I talked to Gainy and told him i will be doing all the same drills i would be doing with the team.''Explained Koivu.


Koivu has been the Canadiens captain for a long time.But for the first time in his career, Koivu has a shot at the Stanley Cup and he can't wait to get the season started.'I was questioned a lot when I signed my contract two years ago about why I did it and why I stayed.The reason why I stayed was because I saw the potential that is possible here, and I want to be here if the team wins the Stanley Cup in the next couple of years.'' Koivu Explained.

Koivu will be entering his 10th season as team captain.No captain in Habs history has played through the ups and the downs like koivu has.'' I've seen the ups and the downs when we had a good team, but the latest years weren't a lot of fun.But this season I think were contenders.This is the best Habs team I've seen in a long time.''

Time will tell if this is the Canadiens Stanley Cup Champion team.

Pre-Season:CandiensV.S Bruins(IN Halifax, NS) this upcoming monday Sept.22/08

On September 22nd the Canadiens will be going to Halifax to take on the Bruins.
Michael Hutchinson is expected to start in goal for the Bruins.As for the Canadiens Jason Missiaen is most likely to start in goal for the Canadiens.It will be good to see how the prospects of the Canadiens play against the Bruins prospects.Lets see if the prospects of the Canadiens play as good as the Canadiens played last season.We will also see if the prospects of the Bruins play like the Bruins played last season.The puck drop is 6:08PM ET

2008-2009 Season Predictons for the Canadiens

The Canadiens are expected to finish at the second spot of the Eastern Confrence with 100 points.With Carey Price leading the way as it is his first season as a number 1 goaltender the Canadiens won't have to worry with price making as many mistakes as he did last season because he has experienced alot of pressure last season and during the playoffs.The Canadiens Captain Saku Koivu has alot of presser to score more than 16 goals this season he is expected to score 21 goals this upcoming season.As kovalev is expected to lead the way in points and goals for the Canadiens this upcoming season.
