AHL: BULLDOGS FALL 3-1 IN BRANFORD

            Earlier tonight in Branford, Ontario, the Hamilton Bulldogs took on the Toronto Marlies in 1 out of 2 exhibition games in Branford. 4 minutes into the first, Gagne fired a shot and it was stopped but Stephen MacAulay was there to put home the rebound to make it 1-0 Bulldogs. 2 minutes into the second, the Marlies put the puck on net and it was tipped in by Scott to tie the game. Gregg Scott would score a late powerplay goal in the third to give the Marlies the lead. Mckegg would add an empty net goal as the Marlies win 3-1. The next exhibition game will be Monday night in Branford between these two teams again.

TIME CHANGE

             It has been announced that the game between the Hamilton Bulldogs and Toronto Marlies on October 20th has a new time. The game that will take place at the Richo Coliseum was originally scheduled to be played at 3:00 pm E.t and it now will be played at 7:00 Pm E.t. This time change was a result of Rogers Sportsnet One wanting to televise the game.

TVA SPORTS IS NOW THE OFFICAL FRENCH BROADCASTING OF THE BULLDOGS

                   Today the AHL  announced that TVA Sports is the  Official French Language Television Broadcaster of the Hamilton Bulldogs. TVA will frequently broadcast games throughout the  2012-13 season.“The American Hockey League has long had a terrific fan base in Quebec and among all of French-speaking Canada,” said David Andrews, AHL President and Chief Executive Officer. “I am certain that TVA Sports viewers will enjoy seeing the Canadiens of the future in action today.”

AHL IS NOW ON THE AIR ON SPORTSNET

             Today its the first week of October and as I predicted the NHL cancelled 2 weeks of the Regular Season and now the AHL will be on the air on Rogers Sportsnet ONE starting October 13th.  The game that will be featured on that day is between the Toronto Marlies and the Rochester Americans at 5 pm E.t.“As we prepare to embark on an exciting 2012-13 season in the American Hockey League, we are thrilled to be teaming with Sportsnet to bring our sport’s best young talent into the homes of our fans across Canada,” said David Andrews, AHL President and Chief Executive Officer. Sportsnet will also be broadcasting a game on october 20th between the Hamilton Bulldogs and Toronto Marlies at 7pm E.t.

NHL CANCELS FIRST 2 WEEKS OF THE REGULAR SEASON



         Today the NHL announced the cancellation of the first 2 weeks of the 2012-13 Regular Season."The game deserves better, the fans deserve better and the people who derive income from their connection to the NHL deserve better," said Bill Daly. "We remain committed to doing everything in our power to forge an agreement that is fair to the players, fair to the teams and good for our fans." No further talks between the NHL and NHLPA are scheduled. It doesn't look like there will be October hockey. But if a new CBA deal does get done in the next week then the season will begin on October 25th. But thats very unlikely.

BULLDOGS RELEASE 14 PLAYERS FROM TRAINING CAMP

              Yesterday Habs GM Marc Bergavin announced that he had released 14 players from the Bulldogs training camp.Stefan Chaput, Olivier Fortier and Ian Schultz Joe Stejskal and Daultan Leveille have been sent down to the ECHL. Forwards Spencer Bennett, Michel Ouellet, Brendan Ranford, Zack Torquato and Kyle Rank along with defencemen Sebastian Owuya and Cody Wild and goaltenders Scott Darling and Cody Reichard have been released completely. The Bulldogs will begin their season when they play 2 exhibition games against the Toronto Marlies on October 6th and 8th in Branford, Ontario before opening the Regular season on October 13th in Grand Rapids.

MARKOV OFF TO THE KHL

               Last night in Monreal, the Canadiens announced that Andrei Markov will be joining Vityaz of the KHL. Due to his knee injuries Markov missed 133 regular season games over the last 2 seasons and all of the 2011 Playoffs. Markov played 13 games last season with the Habs and he had 3 assists.

NHL TALKS TO NHLPA AND MAKE NO PROGRESS

            This morning in New York, the NHL and NHLPA met for 2 hours to negotiate a new CBA contract and they made no progress."No progress to report," NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said. "No progress was made. Unless they show some willingness to compromise, I don't know how we get this done." Daly went onto say that no further meetings have been scheduled. It looks like we will be in for a long lockout.

NHL TALKS TO CONTINUE TOMORROW

                     Tomorrow morning in New York, the NHL and NHLPA will be back in discussion about a new CBA contract. The discussion will be on hockey related revenue No deal is expected to be made as both sides are still far apart and the NHL season will be delayed. An announcement of  Cancelled NHL Regular season games will come some time this week.

GRETZKY SPEAKS ABOUT THE LOCKOUT; WILL THERE BE A 2013 WINTER CLASSIC?

                 Today, Wayne Gretzky (AKA "the Great One") spoke about the NHL lockout and is optimistic in thinking that it will end by January 1st 2013 (the day of the Winter Classic). Gretzky believes that the NHL would lose too much money if they cancel the 2013 Winter Classic between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Detroit Red Wings."I believe in my heart, maybe because I'm such a big hockey fan, that they will be playing by Jan. 1," said Gretzky. "Now that there is a salary cap in place, and revenue sharing, I see them ultimately getting a deal done here and I see them playing hockey this year. The only thing I will say is the commissioner's office and Donald Fehr and the players' association are very smart men, they're both very intelligent.It's a matter of sitting down and getting the deal done." There is no time frame on when the NHL and NHLPA will meet again. So expect to see some NHL games being cancelled by the end of this week.
