Last night in Toronto, the NHL regular season was coming to an end and the Leafs were looking to end the season on a winning note. But even though this was the last game before the playoffs for Montreal the Habs didn't want to fall short of a win. I was in attendence for what was going to be an exciting game. Just 2:29 into the first, Lars Eller centred the puck right to Ryan White who scored his second of the season to make it 1-0 Montreal. Then with the Habs on the powerplay, Gomez centred the puck right to Gionta who scored to make it 2-0. Then with 7 minutes to play in the first, Kessel came in and took a shot and he scored. That's Kessel's 10th goal in his last 10 games. The last player that did that for the Leafs was Sundin in the 05-06 season.
So it was 2-1 after one period. In the second, Weber had a breakaway and he was stopped by Reimer to keep the score at 2-1. Then with 6 to play in the second, Kessel played the puck to Kadri and he hit the post. Then with the Habs on the powerplay, Weber's shot was stopped but Gionta put in the rebound to make it 3-1 after 2. Then in third, Kessel's shot was stopped he got his own rebound, and Price dove to keep it out. The Leafs fans at the ACC thought it was in, but the replay showed that the puck was not flat over the line which automatically makes it No-Goal. That's what the final call on the ice was as well. So the game is still at 3 for Montreal and 1 for Toronto.
Then on the next play, it was a 2 on 1 for Toronto, Lupul played the puck to Kessel and he was stopped by Carey Price. That was a great save. Then with the Habs shorthanded, Plekanec had a breakaway and he scored to make it 4-1. That would be your final as Martin gets his 600th NHL win. Price made 27 saves for Montreal in the win. But after the game, the big story was that Montreal will be playing the Boston Bruins in the playoffs."I'm just excited for the opportunity," said Canadiens forward Michael Cammalleri. "The rivalry matchup, it's one of those series where there will be a lot of eyes and a lot of talk about and all those things. Boston's a team that probably has a lot of high expectations internally. So they're going to come out expecting to win. We are going to feel the same way."
"They play with a lot of fire," said Montreal goalie Carey Price. "It's just going to be good old-fashioned hockey." The playoffs will begin on Wednesday for Montreal against the Bruins at 7:00 pm E.t on CBC and RDS.
