RYDER RETURNS; HABS DOWN LEAFS 5-2

With under a minute to go in the first, Brown hit Gorges from behind and was given a 5 minute major penalty for boarding and a game misconduct. The shots in the first were 11-4 Montreal. 4 minutes into the second with the Habs still on the powerplay, Subbans one-timer was stopped and the rebound went off the shines of Pacioretty and in to make it 2-1 Habs. At the half way point of the game, the Habs came in on a 2 on 1 and Desharnais played it over to Gallagher and he was robbed by the blocker of Scrivens.
1 minute later, Grabovski was taken down on a breakaway and was awarded a penalty shot. Price would make the save. Then with under 4 to go in the second, Frasers shot from the point was stopped but it bounced out of Prices glove. The play continued and Kadri played the puck to McArthur and he scored to tie the game. The shots in the second were 17-8 Habs. 9 minutes into the third, there was a faceoff to the right of the Leafs tender between Desharanais and Bozak. The Habs won the faceoff and Gorges point shot was tipped in by Gallagher to make it 3-2.
Bozak was not ready for the draw and he wasn't impressed with the ref and he let him hear it. Late in the period, Pacioretty came up the right wing and shot a bullet past Scrivens to extend the lead. He looked like the Rocket on that play. Gionta would add an empty net goal from Gionta as the Habs win 5-2. The Habs out shot the Leafs 40 to 23 in the win."The Maple Leafs played two terrific games at the Bell Centre and we knew we had to bounce back from those type of games," Canadiens coach Michel Therrien said. "We certainly played a great team game and stuck to our plan, and we were controlling our emotion to play that game.
"Right from the get go I thought our guys were ready to play, and we set the tone. They tried to be physical on us but I was not afraid of that. We just kept focusing on the things we had to do to be successful." In the win, Price made 22 saves. In the loss, Scrivens made 35 saves. The Habs dominated the Leafs in every aspect of the game, puck battles, shots, shot blocking and special teams. The Habs only took 1 penalty and the Leafs took a 5 minute major and the Habs made them pay with a goal by Pacioretty.
"We were flat, flat, flat, flat," Maple Leafs coach Randy Carlyle said. "It looked like at times that we were playing in our boots and they were playing on skates.We just didn't get anything going for ourselves. I don't think there's any way to paint it pretty and I'm sure you guys will give us a lot of help."

HABS TRADE COLE FOR RYDER
This just in, the Montreal Canadiens have traded forward Eric Cole to the Dallas Stars for Michael Ryder and a draft pick. Michael Ryder spent 4 seasons with Montreal (2003-2008) and had 207 points in 314 Regular Season games. Michael Ryder was drafted 2016th overall in 1998 by the Habs. So far this season Ryder has 6 goals and 8 assists in 19 games with the Stars. Michale Ryder is expected to make his Habs debut tomorrow night in Montreal against the Leafs.
Eric Cole spent just 1 and a half seasons with the Habs (2011-2013). In the 2011-12 season, Eric Cole was the Habs best forward, he had a career high 35 goals and 26 assists in 82 games. But this season hes off to a slow start, in 19 games he has just 3 goals and 3 assists... That was the ultimate reason for the trade along with a few rumors that have been surfacing regarding Coles relationships with his teammates. "Salut Erik. Gonna miss ya brother," Carey Price said on Twitter.

HABS FALL IN A SHOOTOUT 2-1

Earlier tonight in Ottawa, the Conference and Northeast divison leading Canadiens took on the Ottawa Senators. With a win in regulation, the Sens would be in a tie with the Habs for 1st. There was no score in the first and the shots were 12-5 Habs. 1 minute into the second, Giontas wrap around was stopped by Bishop and the rebound went to Prust who shot the puck wide of the net. At the 7 minute mark of the second, Dziurzynski came up the right wing and took a slap shot and scored to make it 1-0. 3 minutes later, Eric Cole received a pass at the right wing and took a shot and it went off the post.
With under 10 seconds to go in the period, the Habs were on a powerplay. The faceoff was to the right of Bishop, it was a scramble draw and Pacioretty played it to Diaz who played it over to Markov and his one timer found its way to the back of the net to tie the game. The shots in the second were 18-10 Montreal. Then in the third, the Habs dominated the third by taking shots from anywhere possible, but Bishop stood tall and forced the game to go into overtime.
The shots in the third were 10-8 Habs. No one could find the back of the net in OT so we were off to a shootout. Silfverberg was up first for Ottawa and he scored. Galchenyuk was denied. But on the Habs second shooter, Desharanias faked a shot and then took one and scored to tie the shootout. Regin would score the shootout winner on the Sens 5th attempt to end the game. The Sens win 2-1 and are 1 point back of the Habs for 1st in the East. In the win, Bishop won the game for the Senators by making 44 saves.
In the loss, Price made 23 saves."It was all Bishop," said Senators coach Paul MacLean. "I thought (Montreal) really skated well and really cut us off and didn't give us an opportunity to do very much and Ben was outstanding in the net.For the most part I thought they dominated the rink for most of the game but we would bend and we would bend but we wouldn't break. One of the strengths of our organization right now is goaltending and we've been leaning on it quite a bit."

PRICE MAKES 17 SAVE TO SHUT OUT THE RANGERS 3-0; HABS REMAIN IN 1ST
Earlier tonight in Montreal, the conference leading Canadiens took on the Rangers (who have the fewest goals forward in the Eastern Conference). There was no score in the first and the shots were 6-3 New York. 1:20 into the second, Eller played the puck to Prust and it went off his leg and right to Cole in the slot and he scored to make it 1-0. 12 minutes later, Eller played the puck to Gallchenyuk and he took the puck to the net and scored. Then with under a minute to play with the Habs on a powerplay, Gallchenyuk (behind the net) played the puck to Eller at the right circle and he one timed a shot past Biron to make it 3-0.
In the second the shots were 12-7 Montreal. In the third the Habs were playing to protect the shutout as they had 3 guys back at all times and only allowed 4 shots as the Habs hang on for a 3-0 win. In the win Price made 17 saves for his 2nd shutout of the season. In the loss, Biron made 15 saves. After the game the Head Coach of the Habs spoke about how Montreal has been able to hold every team in the last 5 games to below 20 shots."We addressed it tonight in our meeting before the game."
"We have a style to play," said Therrien. "It's a demanding style, but we want to be a team that's tough to play against. The guys did a great job again.We picked up seven points out of eight (this week). That's pretty exceptional."

Earlier tonight in Montreal, the 1st place Canadiens took on the New York Islanders in search of their 6th straight win. 49 seconds into the first, Armstrong centred the puck to Moen and he scored to make it 1-0 Habs. Then 10 minutes later with the Habs on the powerplay, Subban played the puck to Desharnias on the left wing and he centred it to Pacioretty and he scored to make it 2-0. The shots in the first were 14-3 Montreal. 34 seconds into the second with the Islanders on a powerplay, former Hab, Mark Streit took a shot from the point and it was tipped in by Moulson to cut the lead to 1.
8 minutes later, Desharnias centred the puck to Pacioretty and he scored to make it 3-1. Moulson would score a late powerplay goal in the second to cut the lead to 3-2. The shots in the second were 14-12 Montreal. 10 minutes into the third, Nielsons shot from the slot beat Price to tie the game. So were off to overtime. The shots in the third were 8-4 Isanders. 3 minutes into O.t, Tavares played the puck to Grabiner and he played it to Hickey at the side of the net and he scored his first Career NHL goal as the Isanders win 4-3.
In the win, Nabokov made 30 saves. In the loss, Price made 21 saves. "We played a good first half of the game, but we kinda layed off and let their guys take charge of the game," Captain Brian Gionta Said.

HABS WIN 3-1 AS THEY JUMP INTO 1ST IN THE EAST

Earlier tonight in New York, the Canadiens took on the Rangers in search of taking a 1 point lead over the Penguins for 1st in the Eastern Conference. Carey Price made his return to the lineup after missing 2 straight games with the flu. Throughout the first 10 minutes of the First period neither team registered a shot on goal... The Rangers ended up getting 3 consecutive shots to break the drought.There was no score in the first and the shots were 5-3 Rangers. 12 minutes into the second, Stephan centred the puck to Stralman in the slot and he scored to make it 1-0 Rangers. 6 minutes later, Gorges centred the puck to Pacioretty and he one timed a shot past Lundqvist to tie the game.
The shots in the second were 10-7 Rangers. 1:48 into the third, Galchenyuk had the puck in the slot and he played it to Prust at the side of the net and he played it back to Galchenyuk in front of the net and he scored to make it 2-1. Then with just over a minute to play, Diaz added a empty net goal as the Habs win 3-1. The shots in the third were 10-8 Rangers and 25-18 New York overall. In the win, Price made 24 saves. In the loss, Lundqvist made 15 saves.
"I thought it was probably one of the worst hockey games I've been involved in. Both teams," Said Rangers coach John Tortorella said. "It was two bad teams playing, and we worse than they were. This win was Montreals 5th straight win as they now leap frog over the Pittsburgh Penguins and into 1st in the Eastern Conference by 1 point."I was definitely amped up for this," said Prust, who made his return to New York for the first time since leaving the Rangers in this past offseason. "Ranger fans were happy with my time here. I respect them. I heard a few cheers."
