Today in Montreal, it was announced that Carey Price  had won the Molson Cup for the month of October. Price played 10 out of the 11 games for the Habs so far this season. Price has a great record of 6 wins, 3 loses and 1 ot lose with a 2.38 goals against average and a .912 save percentage and he has 1 shutout. Price will be presented the cup on November 9th prior to the game against the Vancouver Canucks.

EASTERN CANADIAN TEAMS UPDATE: LEAFS LOSE AGAINST THE SENATORS

Last night in Toronto, the Leafs continued to lose games as they lost 3-2 to the Senators in the ACC. This lose was the Leafs 6th straight lose. What's going on in Toronto? I'll tell you what they can't score. Ottawa was having the same problem at the beginning of the season but now they have turned it around. "It feels like when it rains, it pours," said MacArthur. "The only way to get through (a slump) is just to start putting the pucks in deep and keeping it more simple plays. I think once we did that, when we went to the meat potatoes style of hockey, (we were successful). "

The Sens got the first 3 goals of this game from Fisher,Karlsson and Gonchar. Then with the Leafs down 3-0 they finally broke there 118 goalless drought with a goal from Kuleman. They would add one more goal from MacArthur as they lost 3-2 is the final. In the lose, they lost their captain Phaneuf due to a cut in the back of his leg he's going to miss 6 weeks."Well, it's dried up a lot," said Burke. "Obviously, we're having trouble putting the puck in the net right now. I have nothing pending that might solve that. We're going to have to solve it internally for now." CANADIENS COULDN'T BEAT GARON AS THEY LOSE 3-0

Last night in Columbus, Garon made 29 saves to get his first career win over Montreal and his first shuttout of the season."I've been maybe a little lucky," said Matthieu Garon. "When I've played, we haven't played a bad game this season. It feels good. We have to win at home. If we want to be in the top eight teams (making the playoffs), we have to be dominant here at home." It all started in period 1, when Rick Nash came in on a 2 on 1 and fired it home to make it 1-0. Shortly after that they would add another goal from Brassard to make it 2-0. They would add one more goal in the third ( from Wilson) As they won the game 3-0 is the final.

In the Lose, Carey Price made 21 saves on 24 shots. He kept them in the game until the third when the Jackets scored their 3rd goal of the game."We've got some lines that are creating some opportunities and other lines are not," coach Jacques Martin said. "We'll look at the video and analyze and see what we can bring as far as a solution for the next game."

This game was Markov's second game back and the Habs second straight lose. The Habs were on a 4 game winning streak until Markov came back. I think that they are expecting way to much out of Markov and that's why the Habs lost 2 in a row.The Habs next game will be Friday in Buffalo, the puck drop will be  at 7:38 pm E.t onMSG-B (U.S.A), TSN-HABS and RDS-HD.

CANADIENS FALL TO PANTHERS ON HALLOWEEN WEEKEND

Last night in Montreal, it was the day before Halloween and the Habs were looking to win their 5th straight. But unfortunately it didn't end the way they wanted as they fell 3-1 to the Panthers. It started back in the first period when Matthais shot was stopped but Frolik put the rebound in past Price to make it 1-0.  Then early in the second the Habs would get it back on a rap around goal from Matthieu Darche (2nd goal) so were tied.

9 minutes after that Booth got a parcial breakaway and Spacek tripped him. It was called a Penalty shot. But if you look at the replay Booth wasn't completely away from everyone. So it was a bad call. On the penalty shot, Booth would score blocker side on Price to make it 2-1. That would eventually be your winner as the Panthers added one more late in the third (from Matthais) as the Habs 4 game win streak came to an end 3-1 is the final.But the Panthers won mostly due to tremendous goaltending from Vokoun who made 40 saves on 41 shots."We did what we had to do on the road," Panthers coach Peter DeBoer said.

"We got great goaltending. That's a great team. They come at you with a lot of firepower, a lot of speed, and we needed to be at the top of our game in order to get a win." In the lose, Carey Price made 28 saves on 31 shots and Markov made his season debut and had 5 shots on net in 23 minutes of ice time. The Canadiens also struggled on the powerplay as they went 0 for 6.

"I thought we had three pretty good scoring chances out there," Montreal's Tomas Plekanec said. "Give the credit to Vokoun, he played well. He made some very strong saves through the whole game and we didn't play as well as we should have." The Habs next game will be Tuesday against the Blue Jackets on TSN-HABS and RDS.

AULD MAKES 3O SAVES IN DEBUT TO LEAD MONTREAL TO 4 STRAIGHT WINS

(7-2-1) Montreal Canadiens 3-1 New York Islanders  (4-4-2)

Last night in long Island, New York, the Montreal Canadiens goalie Alex Auld made 30 saves in  his Canadiens debut and it lead to Montreal completing the home and home series against the Islanders with a sweep as the Habs won 3-1."First games, you have that deposit of nervous energy that comes with a new group and a new team," Auld said. "You have to control that emotion and make sure it's not too high." It all started early in the first period (2 minutes in) when Montreal went on the powerplay. On the powerplay, Cammalleri's shot that  went wide of the goal but it went right to Plekanec who put it in on his back hand to get his 5th goal of the season and to make it 1-0 Habs lead.


Late in the second, the Islanders would get it back with a goal from Matt Martin that was his first NHL goal so now were tied. Then early in the third,  Halpern skates in and sell's that he's going to shoot but he doesn't as he past it right to Pouliot who one timed the puck into the back of the net to make it 2-1. With under 2 minutes left the Islanders fail to clear it and the puck goal right to Gionta who takes a shot and it was tipped in by Moen to make it 3-1. That would be your final as Montreal has won 4 in a row and has won 6 of their last 7 games.

"I was yelling at him to pass," Pouliot said about Halpern's shot fake which lead to his goal. "He did a great play and he heard me at the last minute when the 'D' closed up on him. It was a perfect pass." This win now put Montreal at the top of the East and at the top of the NHL.The Habs will look to continue this winning streak tonight as they take on the Panthers in Montreal on CBC's hockey night in Canada (it will be on CBC-Montreal).

AULD TO MAKE CANADIENS DEBUT TOMORROW NIGHT; PRICE SILENCED THE CRITICS

MONTREAL, QUE- Today Jacques finaly set the date for when Alex Auld will start and it will be as soon as I don't know...Tomorrow. This start will be Auld's first start as a Montreal Canadien and it will be in Long Island,New York."Anytime you get an opportunity with a new team you're excited," said Auld. "Maybe a few years ago I would have dwelled on it more but now my focus is day-to-day.I found that if you start worrying about the games you're not playing then you're not ready when it's your turn. I just had to stay sharp. I knew it would come." This will be the Habs 10th game of the season and Price's first day off.

As Carey Price had a great record of 6-2-1 in those 9 games. So it was a good start for him as he silenced the critics. But I'm sure he won't mind a day off. After all he will be playing the next day."Last year I said we had two No. 1 goalies," said Martin. "I thought the competition brought out the best in both of them and helped them grow and to understand the demands of being a No. 1."This year it's a different situation from the start. Alex is a veteran who has a good relationship with Carey and he'll give us some strong games."

MARKOV WILL MAKE HIS SEASON DEBUT ON SATURDAY

MONTREAL,QUE- Today Jacques Martin announced that Andrei Markov was cleared by Canadiens doctors and will make his season debut on Saturday. He will be a big part to improving the Habs powerplay which is currently 30th in the NHL. But with Markov back what does that mean for O'Byrn and Picard? It means one of them is going to get cut. If your wondering who. I think it will be Picard (He currently has 1 goal in 8 games). It will be Picard because he doesn't have as much experiance as O'Bryn (who has played 128 games on Montreal and has 2 goals and 16 assist in 4 seasons). O'Bryn also has playoff experiance with Montreal. So I expect it will be Picard who will be sent down.

ISLANDERS @ CANADIENS 10/28/10

CANADIENS GET THEIR 3RD STARIGHT WIN WITH A 5-3 VICTORY OVER THE ISLANDERS

(4-3-2) New York Islanders 3-5 Montreal Canadiens (6-2-1)

Last night in Montreal, it was the first out of back to back meetings between the Montreal Canadiens and the New York Islanders. The Canadiens started off well. The Canadiens opened the scoring 13 and a half minutes into the first with a shot from the point by Halpern which was tipped in front by  Matthieu Darche for his first of the season. Then shortly after that the Habs would add another goal, this time it was shorthanded. It was a 2 on 1 and Plekanec gave a great pass right to Moen who would tap it into the net. But in the final minute of the period the Isl's would get it back on the powerplay with a point shot from the point that was tipped in by Wisniewski to cut the lead in half.

Then 7 minutes into the second the Canadiens would get it back with a goal from Plekanec that was his fourth of the year and all four of his goals were scored at home. Then with the score 3-2 in the third the Habs would get another goal. As Halperns centering pass went off the defenseman and into the net. That would give the Habs a 2 goal lead again. The Islanders wouldn't give up. There Captain Doug Weight scored to put them within one. But the Habs would add an empty net goal from Andrei Kostitsyn as the Habs win this game 5-3. With that goal by Kostitsyn he has now scored 5 goals in his past 5 games.

"It's been most enjoyable to see how our team came together this week," said  Halpern. "We're starting to create, and Plek's line is leading the charge." In the win, Carey Price was great as he made 17 saves on 21 shots to presever the win. As for the team that lost this game, Roloson made 30 saves on 34 shots that he faced. In the loss Tavares also scored on the powerplay early in the third. But the Islanders couldn't grab a win in this one as Montreal dominated this game and got the 2 points.
