Just 1 minute later, Moen took a shot from the left side and it beat Fleury to tie the game at 1-1.  5 minutes later, Pacioretty got the puck on the left side and fired a shot and scored to give the Habs a 2-1 lead. 1 Minute later,Nokellainen's shot was stopped and Darche was denied as well on the rebound. 2 minutes into the second, Dupuis fired a shot off Kunitz and past Price to tie the game.  But they decided to review it and it turned out that the shot went off the arm of Kunitz and into the net so the goal was disallowed and the Habs still had the lead.

6 Minutes later, Cole's shot from the slot went off the post and off Fleury and into the net to give the Habs a 3-1 lead. 5 minutes later, Staal's shot was stopped by the left skate of Price. Then with under 5 minutes to play, Staal had a breakaway and scored blocker side on Price to tie the game. This game would go into overtime. 3 minutes into overtime, Price thought he had the puck covered under his glove, but Dupuis took the puck from him and played it to Letang and he one-timed a shot into the net and the Penguins walk away with a 4-3 overtime win. In the loss, Price made 38 saves. In the win, Fleury made 24 saves.

The Habs next game will be Wednesday night against the Ducks at 10:00 Pm E.t on RDS-HD.

This is a tribute video that was played before the puck dropped last night in Pittsburgh to welcome back Crosby.

Islanders @ Penguins

CROSBY RETURNS AND GETS THE PENGUINS A 5-0 WIN

GOAL SCORERS

PIT:   S. Crosby (05:24 - 1st) , B. Orpik (16:29 - 1st) , E. Malkin (PPG, 03:17 - 2nd) , S. Sullivan (05:53 - 2nd) , S. Crosby (02:06 - 3rd)
GOALIES

NYI: A. Nilsson (L)
 PIT: M. Fleury (W)

Last night in Pittsburgh, it was the night that all hockey fans were waiting for: "The Return Of Sidney Crosby." The last time Crosby played a game was January 5th 2011 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Crosby would be diagnosed with a concussion after that game. So in 41 games (in the 2010-11 season), Crosby had 32 goals and 34 assist for a total of 66 points. When Crosby stepped out onto the ice on Monday night, the fans chanted Crosby and gave him a standing ovation. It didn't take long for Crosby to get back into game mode. Just 5:24 in, Crosby got the puck at centre and took the puck to the right side and went into the Islanders zone and backhanded the puck past Nilsson to get his first goal of the season to make it 1-0 Penguins.

Then with under 4 minutes to play in the first, Dupuis dived to keep the puck in, so Crosby had the puck and played it to Orpik and he one-timed a shot into the back of the net to make it 2-0 Pittsburgh. Then 4 minutes into the second, Crosbys shot was blocked and went to Letang at the point and he fired one to the net, Malkin picked up the rebound and he barry it in front to make it 3-0 Penguins. 2 minutes later, Malkins shot was deflected in by Sullivan to make it 3-0 Penguins lead. Shortly after that, Tavares took a shot and that was stopped by Fleury. 2 minutes into the third, Crosbys backhander beat Nilsson again to make it 5-0 and that would be your final, as Crosby had 2 goals and 2 assist for a total of 4 points in his return.

"As the game went on, I felt better and better," Crosby said. "On the goal, I just tried to get up in the play and Duper pushed the puck over and I was able to get some speed, able to get a good shot away." Crosby also spoke about the standing ovation he received in his return."That was a great moment and now, for me, I'll have a great memory of this one," said Crosby, who watched that game on TV. Fleury made 29 saves in the shutout win and spoke about Crosby after the game."The atmosphere was very electric," goalie Marc-Andre Fleury said. "It was just loud and fun. Sid had a goal early on, so you couldn't have written it any better."

BRUINS WIN THEIR 9TH STRAIGHT WITH A 1-0 WIN AGAINST THE HABS

GOAL SCORERS

BOS:   A. Ference (15:41 - 1st)
GOALIES

BOS: T. Thomas (W)
 MTL: C. Price (L)

Last night in Montreal, after coming off 2 consecutive shutouts, Carey Price and the Habs were looking to end the Bruins long 8 game win streak. 7 minutes in, Gionta got the puck in the slot and took a shot but it was stopped by Tim Thomas. 8 minutes later, Cole got the puck all alone in front (on the left) and he took a shot, but Thomas dove and made a save with his head. A few minutes later, Peverly  played the puck across the ice right too Ference on the left circle and he one-timed a shot past Price to make it 1-0 Boston Bruins lead. 10 minutes into the second, Nathan Hortons point shot was stopped with the quick glove of Carey Price.

Then with the Habs on the powerplay, Cammaleri's one timer from the right circle was stopped by the right pad of Thomas. A few seconds later, Diaz played the puck over to Subban at the left point and he fired a shot but it was stopped by the left pad of Thomas. So the score was still 1-0 Bruins after 2. 5 minutes into the third, Gionta played the puck to Cammaleri in front and he was robed by the glove of Thomas. Then with Habs on a powerplay with the net empty, Cole's shot from the slot was stopped but Pacioretty tapped the puck out of mid-air and Thomas saved it. Then with 8 seconds to go, Coles shot was stopped by the left pad and went right to Paciorettys skates but he couldn't control the puck as the Habs lose this game 1-0.

In the Bruins 9th straight win, Thomas made 33 saves for the shutout. In the lose, Price made 17 saves on 18 shots."I thought it was a good game back and forth," said Habs captain Brian Gionta. "Both goaltenders played well and we had our fair share of opportunities. It's a tough one to lose because it was back and forth. It boils down to we make one mistake and one missed assignment on their goal and that's the difference in the game.I thought we played fairly well; there were times we carried the play but we just couldn't find a way to solve the goalie." The Habs next game will be Wednesday night against the Hurricanes on RDS-HD.

PRICE MAKES 17 SAVES IN HIS SECOND STRAIGHT 4-0 SHUTOUT VICTORY

GOAL SCORERS

MTL:   E. Cole (PPG, 03:45 - 1st) , B. Gionta (08:12 - 2nd) , T. Plekanec (PPG, 07:05 - 3rd) , B. Gionta (13:47 - 3rd)
GOALIES

NYR: M. Biron (L)
 MTL: C. Price (W)

Earlier tonight in Montreal, the Canadiens were looking to rebound after a 4-3 lose to the Islanders with a win against the Rangers. Before the game, the Habs honored Eddy Palachak, a long time Canadiens trainer who passed away on Wednesday.“The guys loved Eddy,” explained current Habs head equipment manager, Pierre Gervais.“That was one of the things I was most surprised about when I came to the team in 1986, just how much the players absolutely loved him and respected him. Early on, he was very close with Ken Dryden; Ken would invite him over for dinner at his house and stuff like that.He and Serge Savard had a great relationship, too. At one point they owned horses together and they were close when Serge played and then even more so when he became the GM. He was quite a character and the guys loved being around him."

So could the Habs honor Eddy with a win? Well just 3 and a half minutes in, Eric Cole came in on the right side and took a wrist shot and scored to make it 1-0 Habs lead. That was Cole 6th goal of the season and it came on the powerplay. 1 minute later, the Rangers got the puck to Gaborik in front and he was robbed by the right pad of Price. 2 minutes later, Gorges point shot was tipped by Gionta and Biron made the blocker save. 2 minutes into the second, Dubinky's dump in took a weird hop off the glass and it was stopped by Price. 6 minutes later, Gionta came in on the right side and took a wrist shot and it beat Biron to make it 2-0 Montreal. It was a shot that Biron should have had as it beat him five hole from a bad angle.

Then with under 10 to play in period 2, Diaz's point shot was stopped five hole by Martin Biron.A few seconds later, Gomez centred the puck right to Cammalleri and he was robbed by the glove of Biron. So the score was 2-0 after 2 periods of play. 7 minutes into the second, Cole's shot from the right circle went off the post. The Habs would find a way to get the puck back to Plekanec at the point and Plekanec fired a shot past Biron to make it 3-0 Montreal. 9 minutes later, Gomez played the puck to Gionta in the slot and he one-timed a shot past Biron to make it 4-0 Montreal. That would be your Final. This was Price's second straight shutout, in a game where he only made 17 saves. This was the first time in Price's career that he has had back-to-back shitouts.

"He's the backbone of our team, but we did do a good job of getting the puck out of our end," said Gionta. The angry Tortorella once again has some words for a member of the media who blamed Biron for the lose."Don't look at our goalie, I'll tell you that," Rangers coach John Tortorella said. "Our whole crew in front of him never had the puck and we were chasing the game. We never caught up to it." The Habs played yet another dominating home game against the Rangers as this was their 5th straight home victory versus the Rangers. This win also ended the Rangers 7 game win streak.

CANADIENS SHUTOUT THE HURRICANES WITH A 4-0 WIN

GOAL SCORERS

MTL:   M. Cammalleri (07:15 - 1st) , Y. Weber (PPG, 15:16 - 1st) , P. Subban (06:13 - 2nd) , T. Moen (19:21 - 2nd)
GOALIES

CAR: C. Ward (L)
 MTL: C. Price (W)

Last night in Montreal, the Canadiens took on the Hurricanes. Before the game, the Canadiens announced that Cammalleri will make his return to the ice and that St.Denis would make his NHL debut. 7 minutes in, Plekanec came into the attacking zone and played the puck to Cammalleri on the left and he wired a shot past Ward to make it 1-0 Montreal. 1 minute later, Gorges point shot was tipped right on by Desharnias and Ward made the save but gave up a big rebound and Cole couldn't get to it. 2 minutes later, Plekanec played the puck (from the right point) to Cole (on the left point), and he played the puck cross ice to Weber (at the top of the circle) and he one-timed a shot past Ward to make it 2-0 Montreal. The shots were 16-4 in favor of Montreal along with a 2-0 lead after period 1.

6 minutes into the second, Pacioretty centred the puck to Subban and he wristed a shot into the back of the net to make it 3-0 Montreal. That was Subbans first goal of the season. Then with 6 minutes to play in the second, Webers shot was stopped and Palushi was denied twice on the rebound by Cam Ward. A few minutes later, Harrisons point shot was easily saved by Carey Price. Then shortly after that, Gomez took a shot and it went wide, but Moen shot the puck off the glove of Ward and in from behind the net to make it 4-0 Montreal after 2 periods of play. 6 minutes into the third, Skinner pass the puck across the crease to Staal and he shot the puck and was robbed by the right pad of Carey Price.

Thats as close as the Canes would get to a goal as Carey Price makes 25 saves in his first shutout of the season in a game where the Habs dominated."It was a solid effort all the way through," captain Brian Gionta said. "We were doing the right things, and obviously Pricey made some huge saves."Once the Hurricanes went down 3-0, I noticed that they looked like they have given up. As they were not battling for the puck in the corners like they were in the first. That resulted in a 4-0 Habs win. The Canes have gone from bad to worse as they have a record of  3-8-2 in their last 13 games."No question there's concern," Carolina captain Eric Staal said. "Obviously, if we keep losing we're not going to be in the mix for the playoffs. So we've got to figure this out and get back to winning some games because if you keep losing, you're going to be out of the picture before you know it and the season's going to be wasted."

GOALIES

BUF: J. Enroth (W)
 MTL: C. Price (L)

Last night in Montreal, the Canadiens took on the Sabres. Price got the start for the Habs and a surprise move by the Sabres as Enroth got the start over Miller. 4 minutes into the game, Webers onetimer was stopped and Desharnais had 2 wacks at the rebound but it was kept out by Enroth. Late in the first, Desharnais came in on the left side with a 2 on 1 and he played the puck to Cole and he was stopped by Enroth. 4 minutes into the second with the Habs on a powerplay, the Sabres had 5 chances to clear the puck but were unable to do so. That resulted into another chance for Desharnais and he was stopped, but he was knocked down onto Enroth. Then the Sabres cleared the puck right to Subban at the point and he played the puck to Cole ( on the right) and he one-timed a shot past Enroth to give the Habs a 1-0 Lead.

2 minutes later, Darche had a breakaway and he was stopped by Enroth. Then with 5 minutes to go in the second, Desharnais pass went off a skate and Pacioretty took a shot and scored to make it 2-0. Just under a minute into the third, Roy centred the puck to to Pominville and he one-timed a shot past Price to cut the lead in half. Then with 8 minutes to go, Vanek played the puck to Roy in the slot and he took a wrist shot and scored to tie the game at 2-2. So for the third straight game, the Habs are going to overtime. Overtime would solve nothing so this game would go to a shootout. Plekanec was up first, and he was stopped. Vanek was up for the Sabres, and he came in and scored on a wrist shot. Pacriottey was looking to tie the game and he did by scoring on a wrist shot. Boyes was next and deked out Price and scored to give Buffalo a 2-1 lead. So Gionta had to score to keep this game going and he was stopped. The Sabres win 3-2.

In the loss, Price made 30 saves. In the win, Enroth made 25 saves."We got away from our game there in the third period," said Pacioretty, who has four goals in five games. "It doesn't matter that we were winning 2-0, we've got to play the game that made us successful. We got away from that. " Enroth talked after the game about the shootout."It makes my job easier when you have Vanek and Boyes and guys like that as the shooters," said Enroth. "They're pretty much 100 percent." The Habs played well through 2 periods and then went downhill. As they blew a 2-0 lead and lost 3-2 in a shootout. The Habs next game will be Wednesday night against Carolina on TSN-HD and RDS-HD.

Last night in Phoenix, the Habs traveled to Phoenix in search of avoiding a 3 game losing streak. Just 5 minutes in, O'Reilly's centering pass went right to Boedker and he scored to make it 1-0 Coyotes lead. 2 minutes later, Eric Cole came in on the left side and took a shot and it was stopped by the glove of Smith. Then with 7 minutes to go, Whitney's slapshot was stopped by Price. A few minutes later, Webers one-timer went off the post. 4 minutes into the second, Gionta stole the puck off Gorden behind the Coyotes net and he did a rap-around and scored to tie the game at 1-1. 3 minutes later, Larsons point shot was stopped and Price dove to deny the rebound. Then with 2 minutes to play in the second, Gionta played the puck to Moen in the slot and he took a shot and scored glove side on Smith to give the Habs a 2-1 lead.

5 minutes into the third, Yandles shot was topped but Torres put home the rebound to tie the game at 2-2. This game would go to overtime. Just under 2 minutes into overtime, Eller brought the puck in on the right side and played the puck to Gorges in the slot and he slapped a shot past Smith and the Habs win this game 3-2 is your O.T Final. In the win, Price made 32 saves. In the loss, Smith made 33 saves."The puck was squeezed out to me and I thought I'd try and put it on net," Gorges said about his game-winning goal. "We knew it was going to be a battle. You have to work against this team." In this game, the Habs used their speed to cause turnovers and get opportunities. For example, Gionta's goal was all because he used his speed to take the puck off of Gorden. That's what the Habs did all night and that's why they won.

"Gionta got him from behind," Montreal coach Jacques Martin said. "It was a surprise to him. He lifted his stick, took the puck and scored." Josh Gorges overtime goal was his first goal of the season and it couldn't have come at a better time."When you have guys out you have to have other guys chip in," Habs goaltender Carey Price said. "It was nice to see Josh finally get rewarded." The Habs next game will be Saturday night against the Nashville Predators at 7:08 Pm E.t on CBC-M (HD) and RDS-HD

GOALIES

EDM: N. Khabibulin (W)
 MTL: C. Price (L)

Last night in Montreal, the Oilers (most surprising team in the NHL with a record of 8-3-2) were looking for win number 9 on the season. 4 minutes in, Paciorettys pass (from the left side) went all the way to the right point and Subban took a slap shot and it was stopped by Khabibulin. 2 minutes later, Taylor Hall's point shot was stopped but Price and the Oilers would take a few wackes at the puck before Price would cover it. Then with 8 minutes to go in the first, Gionta (on the right side) came in on a 2 on 1 and he played the puck to Pacioretty and Khabibulin made the save. So there was no score after 1 period of play.

2 minutes into the second, Cole came in on the right with Cammalleri on a 2 on 1 and Cole played the puck to Cammalleri and he was stopped by Khabibulin. 3 minutes later, Jones had a shorthanded breakaway and he beat Price five hole on backhand shot to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead. 5 minutes later, Smyth had a shorthanded breakaway and he was stopped by Price. The score was 1-0 Oilers after 2 periods of play. 5 minutes into the third,  Cole did a nice toe drag move to get around the Oilers defense and then he took a shot but it was stopped by the "Bulin Wall."  Then with 3:33 to play, Gilberts point shot would beat Price to make it 2-0 Oilers. 22 seconds later Pacioretty came in on the right side and took a backhand shot and it beat Khabibulin to cut the lead to 2-1. Smyth would add an empty net goal as the Oilers win 3-1 and improve to 9-3-2.

In the win, Khabibulin made 28 saves on 29 shots. In the Loss, Price made 11 saves on 13 shots."We are disappointed with the score but it wasn't because of a lack of effort or lack of execution," Canadiens coach Jacques Martin said. "We just didn't finish, he made some good saves and we'll look at the tape and find a couple of errors that we need to be better and regroup for Thursday's game." The Habs powerplay was not good in this game as they went 0 for 6 with the man advantage. That's one of the reasons why they lost last night. Another reason was because they could capitalize on their opportunity as they outshot the Oilers 29-14 but couldn't score. The Habs next game will be Thursday night at 9:00 pm E.t against the Phoenix Coyotes on RDS-HD.

Earlier this evening, the Habs were looking to continue their winning streak by getting a win against New York. But it didn't go as planned.  Before this game, the Rangers announced that they had called up Sean Avery from the AHL and he would make his debut against Montreal. 5 minutes into the game, Blunden gave Dubinksy an open ice hit. That would draw a crowd against the boards. Blunden  Callahan drops the gloves with Blunden (the fight would end in a draw). Blunden would get a 2 minute interference penalty and the Habs would get a too many men on the ice penalty. So the Rangers had a 5 on 3 powerplay, Christensen would score at the side of the net to make it 1-0 New York. 5 minutes later, Girardi's shot beat Price glove side to give the Rangers a 2-0 lead. Then late in the first, Del zotto got the puck in front of the net and he scored on his backhand to make it 3-0 New York after 1.

23 seconds into the 2nd, Gionta's shot was stopped but Pacioretty would put home the rebound to cut the lead to 3-1. 6 minutes later, the Habs went on a 5 on 3 powerplay and Plekanec played the puck to Kostitsyn in front and he tipped the puck past Lundqvist to make the score 3-2.  Richards would add a late goal in the second to make it 4-2 Rangers after 2. Late in the third, Spacek's shot was tipped in by Gionta to cut the lead to 1. But Callahan would later get the puck in the Rangers zone and clear it down the ice and into the empty net to make it 5-3 Rangers and that would be the final. In the loss, Price made 24 saves. In the win, Lundqvist made 25 saves."This group has been taught that if you just take care of a couple of details at the right time - like a blocked shot or getting the puck out of the zone - you'll get through it," said Richards. "We've found ways to do that this year, and it's equaled wins."

In this loss, the Habs hit 4 goal posts in what was just a case of bad luck for the Habs. The Canadiens played well in this game, but sometimes you just won't get the bounces going your way. The main reason why the Habs lost was because of their first period play. They gave up 3 goals in the first and were outshot 16-3."Getting up 3-0 is not as easy lead," said Tortorella, who took over for Tom Renney in February 2009, but has yet to guide the Rangers past the first round of the playoffs. "It was one of those games where you're scratching and clawing and trying to find a way to get it done. To come away up two going into the third period was important."Another key reason why the Habs lost is because they took 10 penalty's."It's hard to win a hockey game when you are in the penalty box," Martin said. "I thought we had a strong second period with a goal early in that gave us some momentum. That (Richards goal) was the probably the key."

The Habs next game will be Tuesday against the Oilers in Montreal.

Earlier tonight in Ottawa, the Canadiens took on the Senators in search of their 4th straight win. After the first period the score was tied at 0-0 . But  the Habs had more chances than the Sens, as they outshot them 12-4. 1 minute into the second, Kostitsyn had a breakaway and he was stopped by Anderson with the blocker. 5 minutes later, Paciorettys shot from the slot was stopped by the pad of Anderson. Then with 6 minutes to play in the second, Gionta centred the puck for Cammalleri and he was stopped by Anderson. 30 seconds later, Cammalleri played the puck to Cole (on the left side) and he shot the puck past Anderson to make it 1-0 Montreal. 2 minutes later, the Senators turn the puck over to Eller and he had a partial breakaway and he played the puck to Kostitsyn (on the left) and he tapped the puck in to give the Habs a 2-0 lead.

Then with under a minute to play in the second, Karlessons one-time was stopped by the glove of Price and Price dove to deny the Michalek's rebound. 1 minute into the third, Smith had the puck in front of the Habs net and he took a shot and scored to cut the lead in half. But that's as close as the Senators would get as the Habs win their 4th straight with a 2-1 win. Carey Price made 33 saves in the win. After the game, all the talk was about how the Habs converted a 6 game losing streak into a 4 game winning streak."I'm not too surprised," Price said. "I was always confident in our group, I think we all were. We just weren't getting the breaks, we felt. We're all really confident in our ability so we just kept working at it."

"We're happy with the two points," coach Jacques Martin said. "It's important. It puts us at .500 and because of our start, we've got some ground to make up." In the loss, Anderson made 24 saves."We thought we had a good chance," Smith said. "I thought they were very desperate in their end tonight."With the win, the Habs have improved their record to 5-5-2. So what do the Habs have to do to keep this winning streak going? They have to continue to use their speed on offense, play the possession game on the powerplay, block shots and most important get good goaltending from Carey Price.

PRICE EARNS THE MOLSON CUP & IS NAMED NHL 1st STAR OF THE WEEK

Carey Price highlights

Today in Montreal, the Canadiens announced that Price earned the Molson Cup for October and the NHL announced that Price was named the NHL's 1st star of the week. This past week, Price lead the Habs to a 5-1 win over the Flyers and a home and home sweep against the Bruins (who are last in the Eastern Conference). In those 3 wins, Price allowed only 4 goals on 80 shots which is what lead the NHL to name him the first star of the week. As for the rest of October, Price was named "first star of the game" 3 times (first against Winnipeg on the 9th, and then against Boston on the 27th & 29). Price has a good October with a record of 4-4-2 in 10 games. This is what lead Price to win the Molson cup.
